Naloxone Training for the Steamship Authority

Following an overdose spike on ferry transportation to the islands on Massachusetts, the MA Overdose Response Strategy (ORS) team planned and hosted a meeting to build partnerships between the Coast Guard, AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod and the Steamship Authority to discuss needs and resources available to address the overdose trend in the state. From that meeting, the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod and the Steamship Authority connected, organized a training for the ferry crew and worked to ensure resources were accessible on the ship and at terminal buildings. The AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod developed an overdose awareness poster to be hung on the boats and in the terminal buildings. In addition, the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod plans to provide naloxone training and fentanyl awareness training to the Steamship Authority crew. By bringing together key partners to facilitate the exchange of vital information and ideas, the MA ORS team took action to address and prevent future overdoses.
